Plamegate: does it still have any legs?

The guy who first bitched, properly, that Novak was out of line to name Valerie Plame Wilson as a CIA agent has patiently waited for this day. Now that VPW has published her book " Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House", David Corn, the Washington editor of The Nation magazine can finally get his "I told you so".

VPW is making the talk show rounds and there can no longer be any doubt that outing her did damage to an important, ongoing covert operation. And not just any operation, but one that should have been dear enough to neocon hearts to have left her alone.

Mrs. Wilson's job was to keep the bad guys from getting WMDs. You'd think that anybody in the Bush administration who slowed or hindered that effort would get canned at least, and likely prosecuted. Scooter Libbey was nominally thrown to the wolves, but fortunately he was wearing a Bush Bungee Cord, and was miraculously yanked back/commuted to safety.

This was a mean-spirited, personal political attack of the lowest kind. And damaging to our national interests. Regarding bad guys and WMDs. I don't expect Republicans to apologize (the CYA spinning is well under way) and I have to say that I really don't expect the Dems to do much either.

This leaves it to the very media which helped sell the WMDs in Iraq story to make the effort to hold the Bush administration accountable.

I'm not holding my breath.

Man, Quash, you're starting to sound as cynical as I am. Issues don't matter, only partisanship matters. So what if VPW (as her close friends, of which you are obviously one, must call her) was protecting a "conservative-type" operation? Once hubby started dissing W, that's the only ballgame that's important, because, obviously, if the Prez loses support, then we'll have gay marriage, forced abortion, higher taxes, and we'll all have to speak Arabic. This, of course, is a two-way street, and the dems are just as bad.

It amazes me that the game seems to be deny everything and yell as loud as you can that it's the other guy's fault, just like a bunch of grade schoolers. They do it because it works, because we in the public are too stupid or apathetic to make them stop.

Eventually, on some issues, someone will stop the name calling because they know they're beating a dead horse as far as public opinion goes. Which, as I see it, is why you probably won't get too much more out of the democrats here, as you so eloquently state.

As you can tell I have a real high opinion of politicians and politics in general.

Which is why, as I've said before, maybe the best we can hope for is the status quo, with Executive and Legislative control split between the parties, so they have less of chance of screwing more things up.

And as far as the media's effecting a change, that won't happen because the mainstream media are all extremely liberal. Or all controlled by big money, right wing corporations. Depending on who you ask.

Have a cheery day.

Nevertheless.

Thank you, that is exactly what I meant. It just got stuck in my brain, hidden between the neveradullmoment and neveryoumind.

Yes, cynical, but not pessimistic. Quash, this concerns me. You are starting to know me better than I know myself. It is interesting that every time I post something, you post something in return.

Are you stalking me? Are you an official member of the thought police? Do we live in Imaginationland?

Just some paranoid ramblings to start my day.

P.S. Can I assume that "haev" is a typo, or have you decided to bring out some Gaelic spelling to kick off the Christmas season?

I only visit Imaginationland, but I hear it's really crappy lately. Apparently it's all up to Butters, and he's all out of tinfoil.

Actually, I may need to go visit now, ankle is killing me and I need drugs. Dittos!
